We will depart from Granada and, after a 2-hour journey, arrive in Cordoba, the capital of the region during the Roman Empire. There, the Guadalquivir River will be the first to greet us. We will enter the city by walking across the historic Roman Bridge and passing through the Roman Gate. We will visit the Great Mosque of Cordoba, the most magnificent structure in the 2,000-year-old city and one of the largest mosques in the world, rising on 850 columns. After witnessing the grandeur of the Mosque of Cordoba, our next stop will be the old streets. Along our route are Cordoba’s flower-filled streets, old inns reflecting the full elegance of Andalusian architecture, and Cordoba houses. As we pass through beautiful courtyards, the sound of water trickling in the pools will fill our ears, while our eyes will feast on flowers in a thousand colors. In Seville, the gateway of the Spanish Empire to its colonies, it is possible to see traces of the wealth obtained from the colonies at every turn. Our next stop will be Seville Cathedral (from the outside), the third-largest cathedral in the world and home to the tomb of Christopher Columbus. Immediately beside the cathedral, we will see the Giralda Minaret, the last surviving part of the mosque upon which the cathedral was built, bearing the memory of the Umayyad state of Andalusia. Then, during our walking tour with our guide, we will pass between the Alcázar (from the outside), the palace of the Castilian kings shaped by the shared Andalusian and Christian architectural heritage, and the Archive of the Indies, where records of all maritime expeditions to the Americas from the Age of Discovery until the 19th century were kept, before reaching the old narrow streets of the Santa Cruz district, known as “old” Seville.
